Update: Meetings Continue to be CANCELED
Post date: Jul 25, 2020 12:52:57 AM
It's a new year, and it's time for an update on the Orlando Scrabble Club's activities:
Meetings Canceled Until Further Notice:
Unfortunately, all Orlando Scrabble Club face-to-face activities continue to be canceled until further notice.
We will resume in-person meetings only when it is deemed safe to do so, which may be many months from now.
New Year Reflections:
2020 was a year full of many sad, strange, and difficult times. It was the year of COVID, of masks everywhere, of online everything. If anyone reading this got sick or lost a loved one, you have our heartfelt sympathies. With vaccines, better treatments, and better strategies on the way, we have some hope that 2021 will be a better year on the coronavirus front.
Though it pales in comparison to other woes, our Scrabble lives were also upended in 2020. Most of us went from several weekly games at clubs (and tournaments) to zero over-the-board games in the blink of an eye, way back in the month of March 2020.
We've still got a long way to go before the coronavirus is better under control, but together we'll get through this. Get the vaccine when you can. Wear your mask. Be smart. Keep Scrabbling -- online, until we can start to get together in person again.
We will, of course, be in touch when the Orlando Scrabble Club can resume in-person meetings -- we don't have a crystal ball, but we estimate that this *could* be possible as soon as the the summer or fall of 2021, assuming that vaccine distribution goes well and that safety guidelines continue to be loosened at the local, state, and national levels. Any such announcement, or any other important updates, will be communicated via email, the club website, and the club Facebook page.
In the meantime, happy new year! Here's hoping 2021 is better in every way!
Online Gatherings:
It's not the same as the real thing, but... many members have been meeting and playing games online on Mondays during the pandemic. Contact Tim for more information.
We look forward to a time when we can return to playing the game that we love in person and over real boards. In the meantime, take care, stay safe, and we hope to see you... online.
